How’s it going? I hope your week is off to a great start! Mine has been moving at a more relaxed pace, which is much needed after traveling last week. Not to mention the weather in Atlanta has been gorgeous, which never fails to put me in a good mood. I’m popping back in today for a check in with a Whole 30 days 9-12 recap. Days 9-11 were spent traveling for work, so I hope this gives you some ideas on what to order/pack if you’re traveling while completing a Whole 30.
Breakfast: I heated this up before heading to the airport for my business trip. Two egg cups + a baked sweet potato with coconut cashew butter.
Lunch: My first meal out on Whole 30! We grabbed lunch at Bonefish Grill after our flight landed and we checked into our hotel. This was a salad with tomato, mango, avocado, pumpkin seeds, and “naked” salmon (no butter or oil) topped with lemon juice and olive oil.
Dinner: We went to a sushi/asian spot, so I ordered a tuna and avocado roll wrapped in cucumber. I avoided all the garnishes because I’m unsure what is in them. This was good and tasted super fresh, but I prefer my sushi with rice and soy sauce. 😉
My appetite had been low all day due to travel and work-related anxiety. I had to be on camera for a video we were filming which I was super nervous about. I also get flight anxiety, so needless to say, my appetite was not up to speed. I felt really crappy at bed time so I ate an apple and it helped a little.
Breakfast: Two egg muffins, a sweet potato with almond butter, raspberries, and black coffee. I packed the egg muffins, sweet potatoes, and almond butter from home and bought the berries (and a few other lunch supplies) at the store when I arrived. My flight was only an hour and 20 minutes, so I checked a bag with a soft cooler in it with food I wanted to bring along. I then requested a hotel room with a fridge in it so I could store everything. I was determined to make this work so you bet I did!
Lunch: Another homemade/store bought meal. They cater lunch in for video shoots so I made sure to pack something I could eat. I decided on kale salad with avocado, hardboiled eggs, and Tessamae’s lemon garlic dressing with baby bell peppers, a sweet potato, and a green apple.
Later on I had a banana and some cashews to hold me over until dinner.
Dinner: This meal out was kind of a disaster. I tried ordering a piece of fish with steamed vegetables and the steamed veggies had an unknown oil in them. I did not want to risk it being soybean oil, so I passed and ordered a very modified salad instead. They got the order wrong, so I had to pick off croutons, chickpeas, and corn before I could eat it. It was less than stellar, but did the trick.
The last day of my business trip!
Breakfast: The same as yesterday. This hit the spot both mornings.
Lunch: same as the previous day, minus the sweet potato. I filmed my on camera portion between breakfast and lunch on this day so I was SO relieved by lunch.
Throughout the rest of the afternoon I had a sweet potato with almond butter and some plantain chips. My flight was right during dinner time so I also had an RX Bar on the plane. I wasn’t going to be getting home until around 9:00pm, so a snacky afternoon was in store.
“Dinner”: All I wanted when I got home was a big bowl of vegetables. I sautéed frozen broccoli, bell pepper, and spinach in olive oil, pink salt, and nutritional yeast and topped it with green salsa. Whatever works, right?
I slept like a baby this night. I was so happy to be home. <3
Breakfast: Cooking breakfast at home felt amazing! I whipped up a “breakfast salad” of sautéed kale, bell pepper and onion topped with two fried eggs with strawberries and coffee on the side.
I had breakfast part 2 when I got two work, which was a sweet potato with almond butter.
Lunch: this was a random mix of whatever I had in the fridge. A spinach salad with mini bell peppers, a hardboiled egg, avocado, cashews, and nutritional yeast with a honey crisp apple on the side.
Later in the afternoon I snacked on celery with the rest of my almond butter. When I got home from the office, I poured a big tall glass of….
… Kombucha! With a side of puppy of course 🙂 I was so excited to get home and see her for the first time since being gone. Blake picked her up from our friends’ who were watching her for me while I was away. I love this little gal and snuggling with her fluffy self makes me so happy.
Dinner: I had no food or plan for dinner, so Blake and I went out to True Food. This was the last meal of my eating out streak, but certainly the best. I ordered the seasonal salad (without beans or dressing) which included cauliflower, brussels sprouts, butternut squash, mulberries, and pomegranate seeds with salmon on top. I explained to the server my constraints and they more than willingly accommodated. I LOVE True Food. Definitely a Whole 30 friendly spot.
Physical/Emotional Check In
- Despite traveling and stress, my skin is still looking great. I definitely think the Whole 30 has something to do with that.
- I still haven’t had amazing sleep. I am chalking this up to stress, but can’t wait until I reap the benefit of amazing sleep.
- Lunch is definitely my least inspiring meal. I would LOVE any ideas for how to spice this up.
- My digestion has been a little off, but again, contributing it to travel. I am always so thrown off when I go out of town and it takes a few days for me to get back to normal.
- Cravings-wise, nothing major except pizza and wine on the weekend. I have not been tempted to throw in the towel yet so I’m feeling good. Fingers crossed!
- Overall, I still don’t feel the increase in energy, but apparently that will start in the next week or so.
Your turn! How’s your Whole 30 going? Any fun lunch ideas?
