A Peek Inside My Brown Bags

July 27, 2015

And no, I do not mean Bloomingdales. IMG_0373 Is it just me, or is getting a glimpse into someone else’s grocery bags, fridge, pantry, lunch box, etc. so satisfyingly creepy? I love getting the inside scoop on what people buy at the grocery store, stock on their shelves, and eat on a regular basis. It gives me ideas for new meals or products to try, and helps inspire the list for my next grocery trip. Now maybe I’m just a grocery shopping nerd (and if that’s the case, I apologize for boring you), but I have a feeling some of you might feel the same way. Living in Atlanta, I am lucky enough to have access to a Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Publix, so I have quite the number of options to choose from when it’s time to grocery shop. After getting my weekly email from Whole Foods detailing their current sales (I highly suggest signing up for this feature if you’re interested in saving money), I knew they would be my first stop. • Organic kale (on sale)
  • Local yellow peaches (on sale)
  • Spaghetti squash
  • Green bell peppers (on sale)
  • Zucchini (on sale)
  • Blueberries
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Asparagus
  • Mixture of raw pecans & raw pumpkin seeds from the bulk bins
  • Garlic kale from the salad bar (couldn’t resist)
  • TOTAL SPENT: $21.03

After checking out, I headed over to Trader Joe’s to get the rest of my goodies. This is usually how it rolls, providing that Whole Foods and TJ’s are 2 minutes down the street from each other… Be still, my heart. IMG_0379

  • Unsweetend vanilla almond milk (TJ’s brand is my all time favorite)
  • Broccoli
  • Fuji apples
  • Sugar snap peas
  • Baby bella mushrooms
  • Raspberries
  • Avocado
  • Cucumber
  • Organic tempeh (only $1.99 at TJ’s, $3.99+ elsewhere)
  • Organic garbanzo beans
  • Avocado salsa (admitted impulse buy. I was intrigued!)
  • TOTAL SPENT: $24.18

My grand total spent between the two stores was only $45.21. Whoever said eating healthy has to be expensive, was totally and completely deranged. 😉 Question for you! Where is your favorite place to grocery shop? Do you make a list, or wing it? I absolutely HAVE to make a list. Send me in without a list and I will come home with an entire produce stand, guaranteed. XO, Bay
